Essentially it's about having a heart of "maditude or gratitude". Maybe I'll figure it out soon.

I don't make resolutions each year but I do try to set myself some goals and this year I have a blanket goal of living out Colossians 3:23 (to do everything unto the Lord). I think that in itself will help me focus and work more out of love and gratitude. But I'd like to keep doing Gratituesdays because it's nice testimony that life is really blessed of the Lord.

This week I am especially thankful for a warm house to live in. Watching the news tonight, the reporters were talking about the anniversary of the Haiti earthquake and how the Haitians are still dealing with the aftermath, living in tent cities which are looking to be permanent residence than temporary housing. The cholera epidemic that is shooting through the tent cities. These are just a small portion of the things they face right now.

I am grateful to the Lord for providing me shelter, and am sorry for growing frustrated that it's not perfect. It's loved and lived-in. And when I get frustrated cleaning the floor, need to remember how blessed I am to have that floor, or when a pipe is leaking that we are blessed to have pipes to begin with. Or when I see the 20-year-old tile in my kitchen with some rough patches, that I am rich and blessed beyond measure that I even have a tile floor.

I pray for the people of Haiti and hope that you will add your prayers. I pray for all those around the world without adequate shelter. And I praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy in granting me a home to live in right now.Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-58378549572248062912011-01-11T19:02:00.002-06:002011-01-11T19:04:34.018-06:00Tempting TuesdaysWell, we don't have a new recipe this week. I need to finish shopping and when I went out earlier this week my DH said he would make dinner today because he believed he would be home (officer safety is an AWESOME cook). It turns out that he was able to get out (snow not as bad as they believed it would be), so instead tonight we are having lasagna and salad.

Hoping to pick up Tempting Tuesdays again next week after I reshuffle my monthly menu.Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-57282248231906482962011-01-04T01:03:00.005-06:002011-01-04T01:09:58.236-06:00Tempting TuesdaysIn an effort to expand our menu choices, last year I tried to make an effort to cook one "new to us" recipe each week. It didn't always work out, but we did try some new stuff that we liked and some we probably won't make again.

Hitting the reset button, I've declared Tuesdays to be Tempting Tuesdays! These are the days that we will be trying our new recipes. The goal is at least two new recipes a month, prefer to try four.

This week's new-to-us recipe comes from the blog, Finding Joy in my Kitchen. It's called Cherry Balsamic Chicken Skillet. I'll be doubling it for our family of five (so some leftovers for lunch next day).

If you are interested in this recipe, click HERE!

If I get a chance, will try to upload photos later today and let you know how it tastes and what we liked/didn't like about it.Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-17456115021560147462011-01-04T00:27:00.003-06:002011-01-04T00:33:50.192-06:00Rejoice in the Lord AlwaysToday I was reminded about making the choice to praise the Lord and making the choice to be glad and rejoice--no matter what your situation.

I know I've been guilty of letting problems keep me from praising God and I've taken my eyes off the solution and focused instead on the problems around me (most often, they aren't problems but annoyances that I make into mountains). Ive had to pray often about refocusing my thoughts and mind--to continually renew my mind. In this hustle and bustle world it's easy to get distracted and lose track.

Sunday the little song "Rejoice in the Lord always" was stuck in my mind and I have to tell you that it made such a difference in my day. I was cheerful even when I splashed water all over myself from the sink, even as I cleaned it up and even when my poor little guy was whining (he was not feeling well). Just focusing on the Lord and not my own little things kept my spirits cheerful and thankful.

When you least want to praise, that might be the time you need most to!

Well, I'm off to work as unto the Lord and to take care of this family and home that He gave into my care. I pray that your day is blessed!

Hugs & Blessings,
TamZimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-26294859792554322242010-12-07T10:01:00.008-06:002011-01-02T08:49:18.775-06:00Hitting the Reset ButtonHappy New Year to you all. I pray that the Lord provides you with much blessing during the year.

I don't know about you, but the New Year is a time for reflection here. I don't like making resolutions, but definitely look at January 1st as a time to hit the reset button--especially in light of the things we have been studying in our class.

And this year was no different, with the exception that I have heavily felt the conviction to really take care of some business here and let go of the past. It's time to move on with a new start and make sure that everything I do is unto the Lord. Some things will need to be removed from my life and others will need to be improved, all for His glory.

For the past efforts, I apologize. I was not ready to do things I said I was and I was unable to provide what I said I could. I had chosen to do things not always asking the Lord if I should, relying instead on what flesh wanted to do. It was an immature decision to say or do things that I was not released to do/say. It could be a great example of what not to do. I am tremendously sorry and pray forgiveness.

For the future, only the Lord knows what is in store, but I hope that you walk with me as I go forward in renewed conviction and renewed purpose to do everything for His glory so that I can fulfill the life He has made for me and my precious family.

New Year Blessings and Much Prayer!Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-21383453945160545252010-08-25T17:48:00.001-05:002010-08-25T17:50:18.595-05:00Free Walgreens Photo BookToday only--for FaceBook fans only--Walgreens is offering coupon code for a free 4.5x6" purse photo book (not including sales tax, etc.)

If you are interested, make sure you log into FaceBook, click "like" on the Walgreens page then go to the Free Photo book tab. The enemy is working overtime to bring about dissension. The next verse I am trying to memorize and live out comes from Proverbs 10:12...

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.

(emphasis mine)

If Christ loved us enough to die for us, we need to love our fellow man. If God can forgive us for the multitude of wrongs we have done toward Him and our fellow man, surely we need to learn to forgive as well. When Christ was asked about forgiveness He said seven x seventy times. Our flesh doesn't want to, but perhaps that's part of the maturation process. When we walk in Christ all things are new, new meaning we don't always understand, but we should strive for obedience even when our own minds don't understand.Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-31671766981548493262010-08-15T14:49:00.002-05:002010-08-15T14:53:05.742-05:00Crop Night<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 283px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk9Fft9ju_4JLz09EqEPaCkkcBMSuICPAa92QEMLxhbaMBZfmy5o09c0DiYPh1SJW7EB-8QnPBgVItnyvy8iukEBlVWKQaSXIQS0rVF_R_BZ4tem8WjfojMaq4iKFNoEhQJKgofNMNJE4z/s320/101_7080.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505726287965588674" />

Well, Friday night was my first night as leader of the crop (through our church group). I was up and down most of the night because of some things on my mind. It's difficult to be honest, but here goes...right now I'm struggling to find contentment in my sacred calling as wife and mom. I keep praying and pressing through, but it's not always easy to do and sometimes my family ends up paying the price and I get the (non)joy of dealing with the condemnation I heap on myself.

Why do we women do this? I know that we don't fight flesh and blood and the enemy would love nothing more than to have us defeated and discouraged. Let's face it, that adage of "if mama ain't happy..." rings too true in the whole of the earth today. If we are blessed enough to be married, then we have the wonderful blessing of a husband to lead the home, but I honestly think we women are the heart.

Proverbs 31 reminds us of the woman we all strive to be and it says that her children call her blessed. It's hard to be "blessed" when you are constantly struggling with the kids, the clutter and the mess. It's hard sometimes to be grateful for those things, even. We really should though, as I often remind myself. Each person and thing in our life is here to teach us to grow the fruits of the spirit. Patience when the puppy used the kitchen chair for a chewing post. Self-control when you realize how out of balance things are and you need to get rid of the excess. Love, true Godly love, when you are at your wits end with your family's quirks.

So, now that I've spouted off for the day, I'm going to put some praise and worship music on and just concentrate on the Lord and change the focus of my mind today.

God bless you all!Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-42079297417714513682010-08-11T01:16:00.003-05:002010-08-11T01:21:44.928-05:00Verse of the Day...Deuteronomy 29:9Each day (or least every few days) I've been attempting to learn a new verse. Right now, this is the one I'm praying on...

Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do. ~ Deuteronomy 29:9

In Deuteronomy, Moses is giving the Children of Israel the law again, reminding them of all that they have endured and that the Lord has provided those forty years while they wandered in the wilderness. Even with all they have witnessed, the Children of Israel still need to be reminded that they should not forget the Covenant with God. I am reminded how Moses told them in another passage of Deuteronomy, that when they reach this land of plenty, beware lest they get so used to the blessings they forget to praise and worship Yahweh and end up walking away from their source of strength and prosperity.

My prayer is that we continue to keep Covenant with the Lord, seek in in all that we do and follow after Christ's example so that we can say all is well because He is our God.Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-69368086872591086952010-08-09T23:22:00.002-05:002010-08-09T23:34:31.149-05:00Update on L-A-T-E Prizes and notificationsAgain, thank you for the prayers and understanding. Not too shabby for my first time! :) And the kids were glad because they wanted some right away.

The recipes I used came from simplycanning.com

For those of you who think you can't do it, let me just say that it's a lot easier than you think! If this city girl can do it you certainly can (pardon the pun). :)Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-62178360652229964752009-10-05T08:30:00.004-05:002009-10-05T12:41:32.442-05:00Good, Beautiful DaysThe goodness of God endureth continually. ~ Psalm 52:1b

Anyone who follows this blog knows that God has really laid it on my heart to purge and prepare and to simply get back to the basics in every aspect of life. That's my overwhelming goal in life right now--Him and family first. Lately, though, I've also felt in my heart how much we all need to hold on to the fact that God is good. It's been repeated over and over in word and song and thought lately.

Yes, we all know He's good.

But have you considered about His goodness when the days are gloomy and gray outside? What about when a loved one is ill or in trouble that you can't help? What about when money is tight and jobs are lost or cut back? What about when a friend you trusted hurts you? What about when you feel hurt or alone?

All these things and more do not change the goodness of God. He is still good.

And because He's good and He's our God, we need to praise Him and cling to his promises. We need to hold tight to this through all of life's storms and as we go about our days. We need to remember this to be able to show His goodness in our lives and be those lights for the world to draw them to Him!

Easier said than done, but with prayer and thanksgiving, we can remember that any day which God is a part of cannot be anything but good and beautiful!Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-47962941567432359282009-10-05T07:58:00.007-05:002009-10-05T11:56:16.986-05:00Fall Giveaway Carnival - Are you ready?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWDnYVxJdjH8qGfrcfSBO5L0AnE7RIekIEi6Q-5WjZ0JTXNcbNm936wMGxh9L-x0x48JdTvuK6pEiqJ4QwS4ybmgRHgajPRWmcDnxMj9NiUKBg_OgrUn_1hFpAs4FBt34WCxYaLa8p3AJo/s320/fallgiveawaycarnival3sm.JPG.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5389099786294810450" />

Good morning to everyone out in cyberland! The boys and I went with some friends from our homeschool co-op and spent the beautiful morning outdoors enjoying the sunshine and cooler temps. At various points my heart was bursting with thanks to the Lord for it all. With sweet apple juice running down my chin, I held an apple in one hand to munch on while I picked some large delicious apples for our family. Healthy and gorgeous. Some as large as baseballs and softballs.

I am also thankful for the knowledge of friends and Godly women who share. On a site I belong to, one loop for homesteading had a yummy recipe for apple butter (mmmmm). I am going to try my hand at not only making apple butter but also canning it. The recipe calls for cooking the apples overnight in the crockpot, so the apples and spices are all in there now, simmering away while we dream. The house will smell so delicious in the morning, I can't wait!

If you're interested, here's the recipe link:
http://www.simplycanning.com/canning-apple-butter.html

So, with much love and happiness, I wish you all a blessed week and pray that you can find gratefulness to our Lord for even the small things.

Like a sweet apple.Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-87367575338289755352009-09-25T14:31:00.004-05:002009-09-25T14:43:35.118-05:00A little Friday fun!Good afternoon, I hope you all are doing well. Today is a bit of a lazy day around here. My darling groom decided to take a vacation day. While I enjoy his company (and his strong arms to carry the laundry for me), have got to say that it's a bit more difficult to get things done when he's home.

So, today have a big list, but we are not going to let self-condemnation over not accomplishing something rob our joy of God and togetherness. We'll simply do what we can. So, I have broken my list into MUST do and WANT to do today.

Daddy helped with homeschool today so I could take that off my plate (he's a big blessing in this area). Right now he's downstairs working out. Taters is in school at the boys are enjoying the extra free time today. They discovered an older video game and are playing it now. Need to shoo them outside for some fresh air in a bit.

I've managed to get some laundry in the washer and have swished/swiped the bathrooms. Now I need to go clean a duster and do the dishes. Then one more load of laundry. If can do that, all will be well today. Mostly though, cleaning will wait.

Tonight our church youth group is holding a fundraiser (Parents' night out) so we are going to dinner with some friends. Looking forward to some good food and fellowship!

Then tomorrow is the ladies' prayer breakfast at church for me and a Tae Kwon Do tourney for my husband and the boys. Which reminds me, need to call my mother and let her know both Roughy and Toughy are competing. And, need to set the pot roast out for dinner tomorrow (love the crock pot on days like this).

For the ladies' breakfast am doing a card/stamping display table to show how you can use crafts to bless others. Please pray that I can finish a scrapbook for my friend's table as well as get one or two other little projects I wanted to get done finished.

Then Sunday, my husband is getting baptized. <beaming>

It will be a big weekend all around, so might need to wait until Monday to post again. Wanted to touch base with you all and make sure that you know while we are to be good stewards we are not to make ourselves crazy (unsound mind) while we do it. Some days, we just need to have fun!

God loves you!

Blessings for you and your beautiful families,
TamaraZimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2205160960858805211.post-1228217116302085772009-09-22T16:13:00.005-05:002009-09-22T16:16:06.219-05:00Verse for the Day: Proverbs 18:24Thank you, Lord for being You and for all the friends you've given me.

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:
and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."Zimmersgirlhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08113051081978651748noreply@blogger.com0
